Sony have now taken to the stage with their Gamescom press-conference and have just announced that every PS Vita release would be available through the Playstation Vita store. The entire suite of 3G features available on that model. They include a group-messaging app, web-browser, leaderboards and the ability to share created content in games that support it. Sony also ran through some of the games that are currently in development for the system and the list is actually quite impressive. They include a new title in the Resistance series, Resistance Burning Skies which is a traditional console FPS. Next up was another look at the Vita Little Big Planet. Then there was Reality Fighters which is an augmented reality fighting game. Another new IP was on the agenda next, it was called Escape Plan. I’ve recapped them all below the picture.
Here’s a run down of the games that were shown.
Resistance Burning Skies: The game is a full-blown FPS which casts you as a New York fireman just as the Chimera invade the East Coast of America. The control layout is the same as the games big brothers on the PS3. The game looks impressive for a handheld title and is the first time I have seen an FPS that looks playable on a handheld, it also looks to keep a lot of the weaponry and enemies from the console Resistance games. The game has a Killzone 2 style cover system that makes things a bit easier when things get too hectic. It definitely looks like a completely functional modern first person shooter but is playable on a handheld, is this what people want from the Vita?
LBP: Vita: Touchscreen seems tailor made for a game like Little Big Planet and the trailer for the game showed a player creating relatively complex items and levels with ease using only the touch-screen interface. The Vita’s two cameras also have the obvious benefit of being able to instantly import pictures just like the Playstation Eye can in the console versions of the. The trailer also featured the now obligatory Go! Team music that the series has been using since the original game was announced.
Reality Fighters: Use the camera to insert yourself and your world into a basic fighting game. Personally I would use this to make celebrities fight each other. It doesn’t look very good as an augmented reality product, or a fighting game.
Escape Plan: You help two bizarre, latex creatures escape from various situations using the dynamic that one is big and the other small. It will make use of the tilt and motion control functionality of the Vita. It looks like it could have a decent bit of personality to it, hopefully the puzzles are well thought out and suit the platform.
