The Microsoft Xbox 360 dashboard update has suffered a slight delay but should still be available later on today. The update, which will see the 360 get a makeover to adopt the “metro” Microsoft motif, was due for release all over the world today and is the most significant update to the dashboard since the New Xbox Experience back in 2009. The delay was confirmed by Microsoft’s Major Nelson who simply tweeted that:
FYI the timing for Xbox 360 dashboard update has been slightly delayed, I’ll have a status update later on today.
No reason has been volunteered as a cause for the delay; similarly no timeline beyond the ambiguous “slight” has been given for the delay.
The delay follows on from yesterdays announcement that much of the new streaming content. including a youtube app, would be delayed by a few months. Aside from this content the new update introduces more Kinect speech functionality (it actually makes it available in Ireland for the first time) as well as cloud storage for profiles and saves and a bing search engine for sorting through content on the Xbox 360 marketplace as well as on your harddrive.
