Playstation Network accounts to become Sony Entertainment Network accounts on February Eighth

Posted by

Your Playstation Network account will become a Sony Entertainment Network account on the eighth of February. The change is purely cosmetic and seems to be a part of an initiative within Sony to make all of their online services feel more cohesive by having one log-in. The Playstation Network itself will not be changing name and you will not be required to change your password or any of your information, the change will arrive via a small firmware update and should be completely automatic. The update will not apply to the PSP so don’t worry if you don’t see anything getting updated on the handheld.

Sony explained that “the goal is for there to be one networked log-in for all Sony products.” Sony is a notoriously fractious company internally, something which many analysts have pointed to as a possible explanation for the companies recent troubles. In the email sent to inform people of the change they state that the process began last September and it’s end goal is the “establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.”
